Biker Boy Wonders World

Vibgyor High - Yuvraj Konde DeshmukhNine-year-old Yuvraj Konde Deshmukh is no ordinary boy, who spends his time playing motor racing games and performing stunts in PlayStations consoles. Rather he can make your jaw drop by his real world motor racing and stunts. Yes, you heard it right! This nine-year-old kid, student of Vibgyor High School, Pune has bridged the gap between virtual and real world by his passion for motor racing. He took this passion of his to a new level and proved his grit and determination by finishing on the podium in the American Motocross Association's race held at Lake Sugar Tree Motorsports Park, Axton, Virginia. Fighting close by neighborhood kids who were well mindful of the rough terrain circuit, Yuvraj finished as second in the 3.2 km track run over four laps, in the 7-11yrs age category.

Being a typical nine-year kid, he has short attention span, can’t sit quiet for few minutes but this changes drastically when he sits on those bikes and puts them in action. Eight-time national champion Rustom Patel says that he first saw Yuvraj, the Pune boy, at the MRF Super Cross national race and was amazed by his riding abilities. He was sure from the very beginning that this boy was going to make it big, one day. It is under Patel, Yuvraj learns the nuances and subtleties of the game in Patel’s I-Land Racing Academy in Wadala.

Patel says that while all Motorsport races include high levels of danger, motocross racing puts the riders’ abilities to the most extreme of tests. The races are run over both regular and man-made courses with steep slopes and turns.

Yuvraj prepares for around eight hours a day apart from wellness and stamina building sessions and is not permitted to consume chocolates.  Although Yuvraj’s mother still gets jittery with her son’s risky stunts, his father Sandeep who has been a rider himself, takes pride in Yuvraj’s accomplishments. With a successful run in the US, Yuvraj and this team is now aiming to participate in races closer home. However, Yuvraj is desperate in getting back to his friends and teachers at the Vibgyor High School as he has been away from them for over a month now.

These positive effects include better grades, positive behavior, sense of achievements, creating a sense of belonging and becoming responsible and successful adults.

Between the ages of nine and seventeen are when kids learn to make their own decisions and control their behavior. This is a crucial time for students to be in extracurricular activities because they are under supervision, guidance, and they are in an engaged and enriched learning experiences.

The second effect that extracurricular activities have on students is Higher grades and positive attitudes towards school. Students who don’t like the school won’t do as well as the students who do like the school because they are not motivated to succeed. If students don’t like school, it is usually because they do not develop a sense of belonging or feel as though they are not succeeding.

Participation in extracurricular activities provide students an opportunity to create a positive and voluntary connection with their school. Students who participate in extracurricular activities show positive changes in self confidence, teacher perception and later on develop positive school related adult attachments.

By participating in extracurricular activities students' learn lessons in leadership, teamwork, organizational skills, analytical thinking, problem solving, time management, learning to juggle many tasks at once and it allows them to discover their talents. When a student decides they want to join an extracurricular activity, they look for one that interests them and one that they like or enjoy. Participating in certain extracurricular activities having to do with the field that the student is interested can help them find a career.
The final effect that extracurricular activities have on students is the social aspect. Students
who are involved in extracurricular activities meet many new people. Each activity be it sport or performing arts is different, so students meet different people in all different groups. By joining different ones they meet people with the same backgrounds they have and people they share interests with. Most times the people that students meet are students that they would never talk to or become friends with on a normal basis.

Preparing Children for Global Citizenship

The "child development" model adopted by Vibgyor High across its network of schools originates from the need for holistically developing every child into tomorrow's honorable and knowledgeable global citizen. A well rounded personality who is able to comfortably interact and understand situations and circumstances and effectively present his views and opinions on diverse subjects in a  complex, dynamic and fast changing global society.

Between Grade 5 and Grade 10, academics take centre-stage at Vibgyor while non-academic activities are carried on alongside, but in a more focused and specialized manner to further strengthen the student's intellectual, aesthetic, physical and cultural growth.

Furthermore, in keeping with Vibgyor High's emphasis on experiential learning, a host of projects and field trips are also organized. These programs help in building positive attitudes and healthy habits amongst students.

Students are also  encouraged to question, hypothesize, analyze and be creative.

At Vibgyor High, the key objective is to prepare the students for tomorrow's real-world challenges.
